2017 Chrysler Pacifica

The original makers of the minivan look to have hit a homerun.

When I was growing up, there was only van we owned. A Chrysler Town & Country. In fact, a lot of people did. It was a great vehicle to move kids, groceries, equipment, and everything else in comfort and style. But the name Town & Country has always sounded so…old-fashioned. The van itself was starting to feel very outdated in terms of looks, comfort, and features compared to the competition.

Fast forward to the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and the unveiling of the new Chrysler minivan. This time ditching the Town & Country name and revisiting a name from 12 years ago. The Pacifica was originally a crossover that sold so well Chrysler decided to stop making it. Now, the Pacifica is a minivan, or rather two minivans.

The first minivan is a stylish minivan that can seat up to eight, has an available vacuum and more power out of its engine. That’s all nice, but not the groundbreaking part. The groundbreaking part is when you add the word “hybrid”. That’s right! The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid will be able to get 80 mpg due to witchcraft and calculations only Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory can figure out.

Gone is the boxy shape of the original van and the previous generation which looked like crap even when it was launched. I for one am happy for both then name change and the hybrid availability.

So rest in peace Town & Country. You did your duty and created an enormously successful segment. And hello Pacifica.
